Ethan had an appointment yesterday and now officially weighs 12 pounds at 3 weeks old! our little chunk. he is a champion at nursing, but for the past couple of days cries when i try to nurse him on the right side. is it an ear thing? is my milk different on the right? hmmmm.
having trouble adding a picture. will try another time.

twelve pounds, that's amazing! i imagine he'll be sleeping through the night far sooner than 'the books' say. not sure about why he cries when you switch to the right. are you using a different position? i read that in most cases one breast produces more milk than the other. maybe that's it. if so, all you have to do is pump the 'weaker' side until it 'catches up.' i did that and it worked in a matter of days.
my right side is the big producer, so maybe he doesn't like drowning? just went to a new pediatrician - we have a naturopathic pediatrican but need an md too so our insurance will cover her. went to the md just now who said maybe it is a neck muscle thing? but found nothing wrong. we'll see how this develops. E gave us a 4.5 hour stretch last night! hoping for more of the same.
not sure why i am showing up as both "vern" and "lizzie p." lizard pansy is my dog.
Nico prefers my right and sometimes won't nurse at all on my left--but it is because my left produces less, and thus (I assume) more work. If he's sleeping, he usually isn't picky and will nurse on both. Have you noticed any difference between waking and sleeping nursing?
I think you may be right to guess that perhaps it's the flow? Maybe it feels like it's coming too fast?
maybe it is too fast for him. Pediatrician suggested it is his neck. not sure about that as he seems ok. he is pretty picky abouot it no matter what position i put him in, but prefers the "football" hold (we need to rename that!) as he can recline the same way he does on the left side.
oops he's awake, gotta go
